From UNESCO Nairobi Office, the ecological sciences programme in 2000-2001 is concentrating on: improving the effectiveness of existing Biosphere Reserves as a practical implementation of the ecosystem approach. extending the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. improving understanding of the functions, services and values of ecosystems and the interactions with human communities and land use, where possible through the Biosphere Reserve network.
